Project HTSMART

INESPASA is participating in the HTSMART project for the development of high-temperature superconducting magnets for ultra-compact fusion reactors.

HTSMART is a research and development project funded by the Spanish Centre for the Development of Technology and Innovation (CDTI) under the TRANSMISIONES 2024 programme, with the support of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities and the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, financed by the European Union – NextGenerationEU. The project has a total budget of €500,201.68 and has received a grant of €375,151.00.

The main objective of HTSMART is the design, prototyping and validation of high- temperature superconducting magnets for ultra-compact fusion reactors. More broadly, the project seeks to design the most compact and efficient magnetic confinement fusion reactor possible.

Within HTSMART, INESPASA contributes its expertise in the manufacture of advanced components and systems for industrial sectors with demanding technical requirements. This includes not only the application of cutting-edge technologies, such as additive manufacturing and advanced materials, but also the integration of complete solutions that meet stringent standards of quality, reliability and efficiency.

To achieve its objectives, INESPASA will focus on the following specific areas:

  • Integrating automated systems and high-precision quality control solutions to ensure the highest manufacturing standards.
  • Designing high-performance components tailored to specific applications.
  • Developing complex systems requiring exceptional precision and reliability, including cryogenic systems and advanced monitoring technologies.
  • Researching and developing new materials with specific properties, particularly superconducting materials.
  • Investigating and implementing emerging technologies such as additive manufacturing and embedded sensing systems for critical environments.
  • Applying advanced methodologies to improve the efficiency and competitiveness of additive manufacturing processes.

HTSMART will enable INESPASA to integrate emerging technologies, enhance automated manufacturing processes and increase efficiency in both production and product development. The project is closely aligned with the company’s existing technological roadmap, building on the knowledge and capabilities developed in previous years to further strengthen its innovation capacity years to further strengthen its innovation capacity.

We are proud to be part of this initiative alongside a consortium of leading organisations, including Elytt Energy (project coordinator), Skylife Engineering, the University of Seville and the Advanced Center for Aerospace Technologies (CATEC).
